Test Code 4011945 HIV Needle Stick, Rapid

Important Note

This test is for needle stick protocol.  It should be used when personnel; including SH employees, EMS, Law Enforcement, and Fire Services; are exposed via needle stick or other biohazard exposure.   The purpose of this test is to allow the person exposed to elect to receive immediate prophylactic HIV treatment if the source patient is HIV positive.  Therefore, it should be ordered on the source patient NOT the person who was exposed.   Any other requests for rapid HIV testing must be cleared with the Pathologist on call.

All Rapid HIV tests are preliminary and will be confirmed with an HIV test performed at UVMC.
